2024 San Luis Potosi Tour Update

Hello! Thank you for stopping in and reading. Due to the drought in San Luis Potosí and the surrounding region, we have made the tough decision to postpone our 2024 tour. This decision is driven by our commitment to not place any additional strain on the region's already limited resources. Our priority is to ensure that when we do visit, we provide the highest quality experience for you and support the local communities sustainably.

We understand that this news may be disappointing, but we believe it is the most responsible course of action under the circumstances. Please stay tuned for details on our lineup of tours for the upcoming year.

In the meantime, we want to do our part to help those affected by the severe drought throughout the country. Instead of selling tickets at this time, we are looking to support the areas most in need of assistance. You're invited to join us. Together, we can make a meaningful impact. Mexico is home to incredible people with an inspiring sense of community. They could use help from our community to get them through this hardship.

After much research, we chose Oxfam México to donate to now and we welcome your support too: Oxfam Mexico's donation page (click 'donar una vez' | $30 minimum donation). Their initiatives involve rainwater collection and storage systems, new wells, community education, better irrigation, food & bottled water distribution & providing direct financial support, among other strategies. Every dollar makes a difference. To support communities affected, we will match 50 cents for every dollar you all collectively donate to Oxfam México, up to $1,500.

Send proof of donation to Sara@LifeisMore.co. You will not be added to a mailing list unless you specifically request it. Your email is secure with us. In the email let me know if it's ok that I discuss your donation publicly. Even if you don't donate, please share this page. It doesn't cost you anything, but it gets more eyes on this issue. Let's raise some awareness!

Your support in this endeavor would mean a great deal to us and to those suffering from the drought. Thank you for your understanding and for being part of our community. Together, we can make a difference.

Oxfam Mexico's Efforts in Addressing Drought Conditions

Oxfam Mexico plays a crucial role in mitigating the impacts of drought in Mexico through a variety of targeted initiatives. These efforts include:

  • Emergency Relief: Providing immediate access to clean water, food, and sanitation to communities severely affected by drought.

  • Sustainable Solutions: Implementing long-term projects such as solar-powered water pumps and rainwater harvesting systems to ensure a sustainable water supply.

  • Community Resilience: Engaging local communities in education and training programs focused on sustainable agricultural practices and water management techniques.

  • Advocacy and Capacity Building: Working with local and national governments to develop policies that address the root causes of drought and promote water conservation.

  • Economic Support: Offering financial assistance and support to small farmers and businesses impacted by drought to help them sustain their livelihoods.

San Luis Potosí Drought Impact

San Luis Potosí, along with much of Mexico is experiencing one of the worst droughts in over 70 years, leading to severe water shortages and agricultural challenges. The drought conditions are expected to persist at minimum through the end of 2024, exacerbating the existing water scarcity issues. The region's typical rainfall is not sufficient to alleviate the severe drought, and ongoing high temperatures further complicate the situation. Consequently, the National Water Commission of Mexico (Conagua) emphasizes the importance of continued water conservation measures and sustainable solutions to mitigate the drought's impact.

Hosting a tour amid these conditions would pose significant challenges, including placing additional strain on local resources and potentially facing resentment from communities struggling with water scarcity.

Support Our Efforts

As we navigate these challenging times, we encourage you to support Oxfam Mexico's drought relief efforts. Every contribution helps provide essential resources and build long-term resilience in affected communities. To support these efforts, we will match 50 cents for every dollar donated up to $1,500. You can donate directly through Oxfam Mexico's donation page and send proof of donation to Sara@LifeisMore.co. Together, we can make a meaningful impact.

Stay tuned for updates on our upcoming tours and thank you for your support. To stay updated, sign up for our monthly newsletter.
